Ginkgo Bioworks

Emeryville, CA

My final undergraduate internship took place at Ginkgo Bioworks (formerly known as Zymergen), as an Automation Mechatronics Intern. Ginkgo is a biotech company which uses microbes to develop sustainable alternatives to petroleum-based products. Through its biofacturing process, Ginkgo uses genomics, machine learning, and automation to pinpoint molecules of interest.

On the mechatronics team, I designed custom hardware, integrating lab equipment into enclosures and modified instruments to suit our use case. All of my work at Ginkgo contributed to the goal of a more efficient, repeatable, and organized laboratory environment.
